In early 2013, Honda will begin providing the premier car-sharing program, Zipcars with more advanced technology and alternative fuel vehicles. The idea behind this move is that it will both attract new drivers to the Zipcars program who are looking for more affordable and cleaner methods of transportation, while also exposing the masses to the latest new Honda models.
"The future of mobility is being shaped by economic forces, evolving technology and global trends, from increased urbanization to concerns about climate change to how the newest generation of drivers thinks about transportation," explains Scott Griffith, chairman and CEO of Zipcar. "This win-win partnership with Honda adds to Zipcar's array of smart and sustainable transportation options and by introducing Zipsters to Honda's newest hybrid and electric vehicles we can help increase overall awareness of these exciting new technologies."1
But which models will be used the most in this new deal? The Honda Insight hybrid, Honda CR-V compact crossover, and Honda Fit EV, and the Honda Accord Plug-In are due to be among the most prominently offered vehicles in the Zipcar lineup starting early next year.
As for which model we think will be the most popular... If we had to pick one, we'd go with the Honda Fit EV. It's bas on an already popular vehicle, the 2012 Honda Fit, and it's been developed with an advanced battery that delivers a 123 city mile driving range and short charging time of three hours on a 240-volt outlet. What's not to love?
